September 2017 Employment Trends Report [Infographic]

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), total nonfarm payroll employment added 156,000 jobs in August and the unemployment rate was little changed at 4.4 percent. Over the past three months, total nonfarm payroll employment gains have averaged 185,000 per month, compared to an average of 176,000 per month over the last 12 months.

The manufacturing sector saw the largest gains in August with 36,000 jobs added while the construction sector came in second, adding 28,000 jobs. The average nonfarm pay rate increased to $26.39 an hour while the average work week decreased to 33.4 hours.
