SM Cargo Houston team wins safety recognition award

The SM Cargo team at United Airlines in Houston earned Platinum Safety Recognition, the first station in the country to be awarded this designation as part of United Airline’s Safety Excellence Program.

The award marks two years without an employee injury or aircraft damage and is a key element of United’s Safety Management System. Platinum status is the highest level in the rating system. 

“I am extremely proud of our team for earning this great honor,” said Staff Management | SMX Senior Vice President and General Manager Jerry Wimer. “The SM Cargo team in Houston works hard day in and day out to maintain the highest levels of safety. This award is a testament to the importance of safety and a commitment to keeping everyone safe while meeting delivery deadlines.”

United Airlines trusts SM Cargo to manage their mail and cargo operations at three major US airports. We currently service Denver, Houston and San Francisco operations. In Houston, SM Cargo has moved over 30 million pounds of mail year to date, with a compliance rate of 98.8 percent. In 2019, 98.9 percent of the processed mail has moved on its scheduled flight.
