National Minority Supplier Diversity Council Conference 2011 – What We Learned
Staff Management | SMX had the opportunity to be a part of the very successful 2011 National Minority Supplier Diversity Council (NMSDC) Conference and Business Opportunity Fair, held in Atlanta, GA October 30 – November 2, 2011. This year’s event was one of the top five attended events in the 36 years of the NMSDC Conference!
While attending the conference, we were able to connect with potential diverse suppliers to add to our supplier base. Through the seminars attended we were able to identify if we we are on track with managing diverse suppliers and find any areas of best practices to improve.
We were happy to see that we are already following many industry best practices for Diversity Initiatives as evident through:
- Our MSP relationships
- Supplier Management Diversity
- Supplier Spend Requirements through Tier 2 spending
- Of the 25 companies in attendance, we were only one of two to have a diversity council
- NMSDC certified
We also learned that our Diversity Program Inclusion Council (DPIC) is on target with the best practices followed by the diversity councils of leading companies such as Boeing, Toyota and Chrysler. Discussion with these companies gave us the opportunity to identify areas for improvement as we continue to manage our growth in supplier diversity.
Overall, the NMSDC conference was an informative experience that left us ready to effect change.
