May 2017 Employment Trends Report [Infographic]
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), total nonfarm payroll employment added 211,000 jobs in April and the unemployment rate decreased to 4.4%. Over the past three months, total nonfarm payroll employment gains have averaged 174,000 per month, compared to an average of 182,000 per month over the last 12 months.
The leisure and hospitality sector saw the largest gains in April with 55,000 jobs added while health care and social assistance came in second, adding 37,000 jobs. The average nonfarm pay rate increased slightly to $26.19 an hour while the average work week stayed the same at 34.4 hours.
