May 2016 Employment Trends [Infographic]
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), total nonfarm payroll employment added 160,000 jobs in April and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 5%. Over the past three months, total nonfarm payroll employment gains have averaged 200,000 per month compared to an average of 232,000 per month over the last 12 months.
The professional and business services sector saw the largest gains in April with 65,000 jobs added while the health care sector came in second, adding 44,000 jobs. Despite a .3% decrease from March, the temporary help services sector was up 2.3% from April 2015. Year-to-year staffing job growth averaged 3.3% over the past 12 months.
