January 2016 Employment Trends Report [Infographic]
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), total nonfarm payroll employment added 292,000 jobs in December. The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5%. Over the past three months, total nonfarm payroll employment gains have averaged 284,000 per month compared to an average of 221,000 per month over the last 12 months. In 2015, nonfarm payroll employment growth totaled 2.7 million.
The business services sector saw the largest gains in December with 73,000 jobs added while the construction sector came in second, adding 45,000 jobs. Temporary help services contributed 34,000 jobs, up 1.2% compared to November. Year-to-year staffing job growth averaged 4.7% in 2015.
