January 2017 Employment Trends [Infographic]

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), total nonfarm payroll employment added 156,000 jobs in December and the unemployment rate was little changed at to 4.7%. Over the past three months, total nonfarm payroll employment gains have averaged 165,000 per month compared to an average of 189,000 per month over the last 12 months.

The health care sector saw the largest gains in December with 43,000 jobs added while the food services and drinking places sector came in second, adding 30,000 jobs. The average nonfarm pay raised to $26 an hour while the average work week stayed the same at 34.4 hours.
