August 2016 Employment Trends Report [Infographic]
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), total nonfarm payroll employment added 255,000 jobs in July and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.9%. Over the past three months, total nonfarm payroll employment gains have averaged 190,000 per month compared to an average of 206,000 per month over the last 12 months.
The business and professional services sector saw the largest gains in July with 70,000 jobs added, while the health care sector came in second, adding 43,000 jobs. Despite a .6% decrease from June, the temporary help services sector was up 1.9% from July 2015 and year-to-year staffing job growth averaged 2.4% over the past 12 months.
