January 2018 Employment Trends Report [Infographic]
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), total nonfarm payroll employment decreased by 148,000 jobs in December and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.1 percent. Over the past three months, total nonfarm payroll employment gains have averaged 204,000 per month, compared to an average of 172,000 per month over the last 12 months.
The health care sector saw the largest gains in December with 31,000 jobs added while the construction sector came in a close second, adding 30,000 jobs. The average nonfarm pay rate increased to $26.63 an hour while the average workweek stayed the same at 34.5 hours.
