Important Workforce Topics
Important Workforce Topics

Millions of jobs are going unfilled due to a lack of workers with necessary skills. Concurrently, we are about to experience the largest group of military personnel returning home in a generation. These men and women will be experiencing a unique challenge as they get ready to enter a workforce that they may not be prepared for, with employers who lack the knowledge to properly train and integrate these veterans into their workplace. Additionally, each year hundreds of thousands of the world's most talented individuals study and graduate from America's top colleges and universities, and each year many of those same individuals return home - oftentimes because of visa and immigration limitations. At the same time, companies are preparing to lose millions of highly trained workers to retirement, taking with them specialized skills and organizational knowledge.

Read our recent blog on The Job Skills Training Gap, Getting Veterans Back to Work and The Brain Drain to learn more about these important issues that broadly relate to the current state of the workforce.
Improve Job Preparedness with Our OnTask Program
OnTask is our client-customized training program that provides enhanced and task-specific training. OnTask is designed to ensure quality through standardized training procedures and to implement a training methodology and structure to increase training support and awareness in the workplace.

Our training department works with our clients and their service teams to develop a customized training program to accommodate three learning styles - visual, auditory and hands-on. Training tools produced include standardized training documents specific to individual positions, with pictorial process maps and step-by-step work instructions.

Beyond deploying standardized training procedures, OnTask reduces quality issues by placing emphasis on consistency, work standards and accurate documentation. The program includes a process for initial job certification and recertification. Internal auditing ensures compliance and support for successful outside audits with external safety and quality organizations. Also built into the program are processes to ensure that training documents are updated as procedures change and that retraining occurs as necessary.  Learn more about how our OnTask program can support your current and future training needs while improving compliance and quality.

Program Governance
Program GovernanceThe sourcing and implementation of a new contingent workforce management program require a great deal of focus and resources. However, there is one key step for long-term success that is often overlooked and under resourced - planning for ongoing program governance.

The Governance Imperative is an article from the 2012 MSP Executive Guide that explores the question "what is program governance?" and provides helpful advice for both current staffing programs as well as those just getting started with contingent workforce programs.  Read more on The Governance Imperative.
Social Media Recruiting
Join The Revolution Social Media
It is no secret that social media is being used more and more by both job seekers as well as staffing firms. A recent article from the Staffing Industry Analysts, Join the Revolution, states that 82% of staffing firms are using social media to source passive and active candidates. In the article, Jerry Wimer, our Vice President of Global Operations and Staffing Center of Excellence, explains "Social media gives contingent workers the opportunity to connect with each other and our staff in ways that weren't possible before."

Staffing Employment Trends
In the May 2012 Staffing Industry Report, the  Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA) reported that temporary employment was up 21,000 jobs between March and April 2012 and up 8.7% year-over-year despite some deceleration over the past few months. SIA's Temporary Employment Penetration Rate continues to climb, reported at 1.88% in April, which is equal to 1999 levels and close to the all-time-high of 2%. Staffing firms reported positive revenue trends across all staffing sectors and trends by segment continued to be positive though a slowdown can be seen in segments such as Industrial, Office/Clerical, Financial/Accounting and Engineering.

According to the American Staffing Association, seasonally adjusted jobs data released on June 1, 2012  by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicated that staffing employment remained relatively unchanged, up 0.4% from April to May (9,200 jobs). In a year-to-year comparison, temporary help employment for the month was 8.5% higher than in May 2011.
