April 2017 Employment Trends Report [Infographic]
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), total nonfarm payroll employment added 98,000 jobs in March and the unemployment rate decreased to 4.5%. Over the past three months, total nonfarm payroll employment gains have averaged 178,000 per month, compared to an average of 193,000 per month over the last 12 months.
The professional and business services sector saw the largest gains in March with 56,000 jobs added while health care came in second, adding 14,000 jobs. The average nonfarm pay rate increased slightly to $26.14 an hour while the average work week stayed the same at 34.4 hours.
